San Diego Wave Comes Up Short in Tight Match Against Orlando Pride

SAN DIEGO (May 24, 2026) – San Diego Wave FC suffered a 1-0 loss to Orlando Pride on Sunday evening at Snapdragon Stadium.
Orlando found the breakthrough in the opening half after Luana delivered a long pass from deep in the attacking half that took a favorable bounce into the path of Nicole Payne. Payne capitalized on the opportunity, sending a bouncing finish past the goalkeeper for what proved to be the decisive goal of the match.
San Diego pushed for an equalizer throughout the remainder of the contest and controlled stretches of possession, but the Wave were unable to convert their chances in front of goal. The hosts finished the night with a 17-14 advantage in shots while also holding nearly 58 percent of possession, yet Orlando’s early strike stood as the difference.
